What to do After Water Damage

Identifying the source of where the damage is and see if your DIY repairs will work. If not, then either call a plumber or a specialist.

If there is a flood in your home, allow it to recede before calling in a specialist. If water levels are an inch or less, use a wet vacuum to collect the water. Be sure to pull up carpets and padding as well.

To avoid mold from building up, which could build up as fast as within 24 hours, get rid of soaked carpets, baseboards, and sheetrock that aren’t salvageable.

Set up box fans to bring in fresh air currents, paired with humidifiers to help dry out your home. The process could take days to dry up completely.

Once all of the steps are taken, clean any and all affected areas. Don’t forget to sanitize and use disinfectants on sheetrock to prevent mold from growing.
